Eye Treatments in Turkey

Laser eye surgery and eye treatments in Turkey. Expert ophthalmologists, clear results.

Turkey's ophthalmology clinics offer the full range of vision correction procedures LASIK, LASEK, SMILE and cataract surgery using current generation technology at considerably lower cost than equivalent UK private treatment.

Eye Treatments in Turkey

Clearer vision, better living

Eye treatment in Turkey goes beyond just the procedure itself. The ophthalmology teams at our partner clinics take time to explain what is actually happening with your vision, using imaging, tomography and visual aids to show patients exactly what the scans reveal and why specific changes are affecting sight. It is an educational and human experience, not just a clinical one. Alongside treatment, patients receive practical guidance on glasses, preventive care and long-term eye health. For UK patients facing significant costs for laser eye surgery or cataract treatment, our partner clinics offer the same technology, the same surgical standards and the same diagnostic rigour, at considerably lower cost.

Why Turkey

Why laser eye surgery costs less in Turkey

LASIK and LASEK surgery in the UK typically costs between £1,500 and £3,000 per eye at a private clinic. The same procedure in Turkey costs significantly less not because the technology or surgeon quality is lower, but because the operating costs in Istanbul are a fraction of those in London or Manchester. The laser platforms used are identical, the pre-operative assessments are equally thorough and the aftercare protocols are the same. The saving is structural, not clinical.

The procedures

What we can arrange for you.

LASIK

A thin flap is created in the cornea, the laser reshapes the tissue beneath, and the flap is repositioned. LASIK provides rapid recovery most patients have functional vision within 24 hours and can return to normal activity within a day or two. It is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery procedure globally.

Best for: Patients with mild to moderate myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism with adequate corneal thickness

LASEK / PRK

The outer layer of the cornea is removed and the laser applied directly to the surface. Recovery is slower than LASIK seven to ten days for initial healing but there is no flap created, making it more suitable for patients with thinner corneas or active lifestyles where a flap could be a concern.

Best for: Patients with thinner corneas, certain corneal irregularities, or contact sport participants

SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)

A flapless procedure using the latest generation of femtosecond laser to remove a small lens-shaped piece of corneal tissue through a tiny incision. SMILE combines the visual outcomes of LASIK with the surface stability benefits of LASEK and is increasingly the preferred option for eligible patients.

Best for: Patients who want a flapless procedure, those with dry eye concerns, or those requiring treatment for higher prescriptions

Cataract surgery and lens replacement

Removal of the eye's natural lens when clouded by a cataract, or elective lens replacement to achieve vision correction and reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses. Premium intraocular lenses (trifocal, EDOF) can correct distance, intermediate and near vision simultaneously.

Best for: Patients with cataracts or those over 45 seeking lens-based vision correction

Your journey

What your eye treatment visit involves

Most laser eye surgery procedures require only one to two days in Turkey. You arrive, attend the clinic for a thorough pre-operative assessment and the procedure is performed the same or following day. LASIK and SMILE procedures take around fifteen minutes per eye. Most patients return home the following day with functional vision. LASEK requires a slightly longer stay or a willingness to travel home with protective lenses in place during the initial healing period. Cataract surgery is performed as a day case and typically requires two to three days in Turkey.

Safety and standards

Is laser eye surgery in Turkey safe?

Laser eye surgery has a strong safety record when performed by an experienced surgeon using current technology on a properly assessed candidate. The key safety factor is thorough pre-operative assessment identifying the small percentage of patients for whom laser surgery is not appropriate. Our partner clinics conduct comprehensive pre-operative screening and will not proceed with a procedure they do not believe is safe and appropriate for a specific patient. Your UK coordinator remains your contact point throughout and after your visit.

Common questions

Straight answers.

Suitability depends on your prescription, corneal thickness, pupil size and overall eye health. A thorough pre-operative assessment at the clinic will determine which procedure, if any, is appropriate for you. Most people with stable prescriptions and healthy corneas are suitable candidates.

After LASIK or SMILE, most patients can drive within 24 to 48 hours, subject to passing a vision test. After LASEK, driving is not recommended for at least a week. Your surgeon will advise you specifically based on your recovery.

Most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better and no longer need glasses for distance. Reading glasses may still be needed after age 45 unless you opt for monovision correction or a premium lens replacement procedure. We discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.

A small number of patients experience some regression over years. Enhancement procedures may be possible depending on residual corneal thickness. This is discussed during your pre-operative assessment and factored into which procedure is recommended for you.
